Top seed Joelle King Withdraws From Upcoming VITAGEN Singapore Squash Open

7 November 2023

Event top seed and World No.4 Joelle King has unfortunately been forced to withdraw from the upcoming VITAGEN Singapore Squash Open Gold event due to a back injury.

The New Zealand No.1 won the event last year as part of an 11-match unbeaten streak but won’t be able to defend her title this season due to injury. Egypt’s Nour El Tayeb will replace King as the No.1 seed but will stay at the bottom of the draw, with a match against either Sivasangari Subramaniam or late entry into the draw Emili Soini awaiting her in round two.

England’s Georgina Kennedy has become the No.2 seed and has moved to the top of the draw where she will meet either Ka Yi Lee or 9/16 seed Melissa Alves in the second round after receiving a first round bye.

New No.3 seed Nele Gilis will now be joined by sister Tinne in the 3/4 seeding positions, with both still receiving round one byes. England’s Sarah-Jane Perry is now a top eight seed and after receiving a bye in round one will play either Marie Stephan or Aifa Azman.

The last change to the draw comes from Tsz-Wing Tong, who now moves to a 9/16 seed and will play Egypt’s Nour Aboulmakarim for a place in round two.

Play starts on Tuesday 14 November with action available to watch LIVE on SQUASHTV.
