Tinne Gilis Reaches Career-High Ranking in latest update

27 November 2023

Belgium No.2 Tinne Gilis has hit her highest world ranking to date this week as she overtakes Olivia Weaver to sit at No.9 in the world.

The 26-year-old has impressed in recent weeks, reaching her biggest final so far at the Singapore Open where she was defeated in five games by her older sister Nele Gilis.

Malaysia’s Sivasangari Subramaniam bursts into the top 20, jumping up five places to 17th after winning the Hong Kong Football Club final against Egypt’s Amina Orfi.

Subramaniam had previously been World No.16 in July 2022, but her recent run of form, including the HKFC title as well as defeating Nour El Tayeb in their round 2 clash in Singapore, has cemented her place in the top 20.

The top eight remained unchanged, but the ongoing Platinum event, the Hong Kong Open, is likely to upset the rankings next week.

Egypt’s Nada Abbas has moved down two places to 19th while her compatriot Farida Mohamed has slipped one place to 20th, but Orfi’s performance to reach the HKFC final was enough to keep her spot at 18th.

France’s Melissa Alves is the only player to fall out of the women’s top 20 after losing her Hong Kong Football Club quarter final to England’s Sarah-Jane Perry.
