Tinne Gilis v Amina Orfi

The head-to-head record between Tinne Gilis and Amina Orfi

What an incredible run wildcard and World No.84 Amina Orfi has had. At just 15 years of age, the reigning junior world champion has had the eyes of the squash world upon her in D.C., with the Egyptian downing Lucy Beecroft, No.4 seed Sivasangari Subramaniam, No.5 seed Nada Abbas and No.2 seed Sabrina Sobhy to be here today, as well as having to come through three rounds of qualifying.

Top seed and World No.13 Tinne Gilis is, by comparison, a veteran of the tour at 25 years of age. The Belgian, playing in her 10th tour final today, will be hoping to keep up the form that has seen her dispatch Tsz-Wing Tong, Katie Malliff and No.3 seed Farida Mohamed with just one game dropped.

Unsurprisingly, today’s encounter will be the first time the pair have met on court. Will Orfi pull off the biggest upset of her career to date? Or will it be title number five for Gilis?

Victor Crouin v Mohamed ElSherbini

The head-to-head record between Victor Crouin and Mohamed ElSherbini

In another battle of Europe v Africa, French top seed Victor Crouin takes on Egyptian giantkiller Mohamed ElSherbini, in a repeat of their Canadian Open quarter final clash just 11 days ago, which Crouin won 3-1.

Were it not for the epic run of Orfi, ElSherbini may well have been the name on everyone’s lips this week. The 30-year-old, appearing in his first World Tour final in three years today, has upset the odds time and again during his time in D.C..

Coming into the tournament unseeded, the World No.30 came through four epic battles to be here. He began by showing his brilliant powers of recovery by coming from behind to beat Balazs Farkas, No.5 seed Dimitri Steinmann and No.4 seed Omar Mosaad in the first three rounds, before stunning No.2 seed Saurav Ghosal in the semi final.

Having spent 254 minutes on court this week, can ElSherbini make a final push today and win a first Bronze World Tour title?

Standing in his path is one of the game’s form players. The French No.1 has had a spectacular season so far, breaking into the top ten in the world rankings, reaching the final of the Platinum Qatar Classic and winning the Bronze level French Open, as well as reaching two more Bronze finals and two Platinum quarter finals.

Since dropping two games against Timothy Brownell in round two, Crouin has been immaculate in the U.S. capital, recording 3-0 wins over Moustafa El Sirty and Iker Pajares Bernabeu. Will he continue his brilliant form today?
