South Western Open Day 3: Preview and How to Watch Live

29 September 2023

The South Western Open 2023 continues today, with the tournament reaching the quarter-finals stage in Houston, United States.

Play is set to begin at 17:00 (GMT -5) from the Houston Squash Club, with all eight matches shown live on SQUASHTV.

American No.1 Amanda Sobhy, who defeated Georgia Adderley in straight games in the second round, is set to start the day’s play when taking on Welshwoman Emily Whitlock.

The home favourite holds a 3-2 advantage in the head-to-head statistics, but Whitlock will draw confidence from winning the pairs last meeting at the Manchester Open back in May.

There will be more home representation in match two, with No.3 seed Olivia Fiechter squaring off against the unseeded Egyptian Nada Abbas. Fiechter, ranked No.9 in the world, will look to build upon her impressive three-game victory against Sana Ibrahim in the second round.

Spectators will be treated to an all-Egyptian affair in the third quarter-final of the day. Sixth seed Farida Mohamed, who came from two games behind to defeat Englishwoman Lucy Beecroft yesterday, will have to be at her best again to progress past No.4 seed Salma Hany.

Hany, ranked No.11 in the world, was in clinical form to cruise past Zeina Mickawy in three games yesterday, and will look to build upon her quarter-final appearance earlier this month at the Qatar Classic.

The final match of the night sees No.1 seed Nour El Tayeb take on French No.1 Melissa Alves. The Egyptian took just 18 minutes to breeze past South African Alexandra Fuller in round two and will look to continue this blemish-free start to the tournament.
