Sobhy Back Into Top Five On Road To Egypt Standings

31 March 2023

After her victory at the Canadian Women’s Open this weekend, American Amanda Sobhy has moved back into the top eight of the women’s Road to Egypt standings.

The CIB PSA World Tour Finals includes both a men’s and women’s tournament featuring eight players each and brings together all PSA World Tour Platinum title winners. Any remaining places are allocated to the highest ranked players on the CIB Road to Egypt Standings, with points on offer at all PSA World Tour events during the season.

Sobhy defeated Egypt’s Salma Hany to take the PSA World Tour Bronze level title on Thursday evening. Her second title of the season sees her move back inside the top four on the Road to Egypt standings.

Egypt’s Nouran Gohar (1st), Nour El Sherbini (2nd) and Hania El Hammamy (3rd), along with New Zealand’s Joelle King (4th), are the only women above the American in the standings. Sobhy has risen above Nour El Tayeb (6th) and Olivia Fiechter (7th), with England’s Georgina Kennedy rounding out the top eight.

Amanda’s younger sister, Sabrina, reached the semi-finals at the Allen Lambert Galleria in Toronto this week. Thanks to that result, she has jumped two places. The American now occupies 13th places, having moved ahead of Belgium’s Tinne Gilis and Welsh No.1 Tesni Evans.

Diego Eilas continues to top the men’s standings. He is one of four men, along with England’s Mohamed ElShorbagy and the Egyptian duo of Mostafa Asal and Ali Farag, who have already guaranteed their places at the season-ending CIB PSA World Tour Finals.

New Zealand’s Paul Coll, France’s Victor Crouin and the Egyptian pair of Marwan ElShorbagy and Mazen Hesham, are all inside the top eight of the men’s standings, and would qualify for the season-ending event as things stand.

The next event on the PSA World Tour will be the British Open. That Platinum level tournament will be the next opportunity for players to guarantee themselves a place at the CIB PSA World Tour Finals by winning the competition.
