Amanda Sobhy and Jana Shiha Withdraw from El Gouna International

USA’s Amanda Sobhy and Egypt’s Jana Shiha have been ruled out of the upcoming El Gouna International due to injury.

The US No.1 and World No.5 was set to begin her campaign in the second round as the No.5 seed at the Platinum-level event on the Red Sea, but has been unable to recover from an injury that forced her to retire partway through her second-round match with Emily Whitlock in last week’s Manchester Open.

World No.34 Shiha, meanwhile, was set to play Hong Kong’s Tsz-Wing Tong in the first round.

Following Sobhy’s withdrawal, Nour El Tayeb moves up to No.5 seed, Olivia Fiechter moves to No.6 seed, Sarah-Jane Perry moves to No.7 seed and Rowan Elaraby moves to No.8 seed.

Egypt’s Farida Mohamed will now receive a bye in round one, while Latvia’s Ineta Mackevica enters the draw and will play Egypt’s Nadine Shahin in the first round.

Following Shiha’s withdrawal, England’s Grace Gear enters the draw and will play Egypt’s Hana Moataz in the first round, while Tong will now face Moataz’s compatriot Zeina Mickawy.

The El Gouna International takes place in Egypt between May 26 and June 2 . Action from the El Gouna Conference and Culture Center will be shown live on SQUASHTV, while the semi-finals and finals will also be shown live by PSA’s broadcast partners. Streaming from Squash Complex El Gouna – which will host action from round one, round two and selected round three matches – will be hosted on the El Gouna International tournament website.
