El Sherbini and Elias Stay at No.1 in this Week’s Rankings

29 May 2023

Egypt’s Nour El Sherbini and Peru’s Diego Elias head up an unchanged top 20 across both the women’s and men’s PSA World Rankings this week.

For El Sherbini, it’s a fourth successive week atop the World Rankings. The reigning World Champion’s No.1 spot could come under threat from previous incumbent Nouran Gohar during the El Gouna International, which is taking place this week.

If Gohar wins the event and El Sherbini fails to make the final, then the former will return to No.1 next week. Anything else and El Sherbini will remain at the summit.

Elias makes it a seventh straight week at No.1. If Elias reaches the final in El Gouna, he will be guaranteed to hold onto top spot next week.

A semi-final exit for the 26-year-old would allow World Champion Ali Farag to take top spot if he can lift his second El Gouna title, while if Elias went out at the quarter-final stage, then that would bring World No.4 Mohamed ElShorbagy into contention if he can take the trophy.

Here’s a look at the most notable movers of the week outside of the top 20, as of Monday May 29.
