QTerminals Qatar Classic Day Two: Evening Roundup

Nour El Tayeb was the first seeding casualty of the 2023 QTerminals Qatar Classic as the No.5 seed crashed out to fellow Egyptian Salma Hany in the evening session on day two in Doha.

On the traditional court, Hany took a tight first game 12-10 before being pegged back 7-11 in game two.

The World No.13 took the lead once more in game three only for World No.6 Tayeb to fight back again in the fourth. In game five, however, Hany managed to get over the line with a well-earned 11-4 win.

Afterwards, Hany said: “It was a tough second round. The first match [of the tournament] for me is against Nour!

“It was a tough one and I made sure I prepared well for this match and had my mind set for a fight and I’m glad I was able to get the win in the end.”

On the glass court, Egypt’s World No.1 Nour El Sherbini made a strong start to her Qatar campaign with an imperious win over South Africa’s Alexandra Fuller, with ‘the Warrior Princess’ winning in straight games in just 23 minutes.

In the last match of the day, local favourite Abdulla Al Tamimi impressed the home crowd with a 3-0 win over Lucas Serme, with the Qatari No.1 balancing his natural attacking flair with patient rallying to cruise past the Frenchman.
