QSF 3 2024: Tournament Preview

21 May 2024

By Hannah King

As the Manchester Open kicks off tomorrow, 4,000 miles away in Doha, Qatar, the QSF 3 begins, taking place between 22-26 May at the Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex.

Tarek Momen has been named as the top seed for the Bronze-level event and will be huge competition for the other players after recently reaching the semi-finals of the Platinum-level El Gouna International Open.

If Egypt’s Momen, with a world ranking of No.8, can continue this fine form against his competitors, he will fancy his chances of scoring the title.

However, Momen could be under threat by home favourite Abdulla Al-Tamimi. The event at Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex will be in front of Al-Tamimi’s home crowd, with the Qatari player having previously won the QSF 3, QSF 4 and QSF 5 titles this season. In the middle one of these three events, he defeated No.1 seed Momen in a five-game thriller. Can the home crowd spur him on and continue this streak?

Egypt’s Aly Abou Eleinen is the No.2 seed, with his form trending nicely this season. He won his first World Tour title in November 2023 at the Hong Kong FC Open, and now ranked at World No.13, is one to keep an eye on.

Meanwhile, Dimitri Steinmann arrives in Doha on the back of his best-ever performance at the World Championships, where he reached the last 16.

Steinmann, ranked No.25 in the world, could meet Eleinen in the quarter-finals if the event were to go to seeding. The pair engaged in a brilliant five-gamer in the World Championships, so this possibility could make for an interesting rematch.

At a career-high ranking of World No.15, Eain Yow Ng from Malaysia is also adding to the fierce competition following some great results at the Hong Kong FC Open and winning the German Open.

Elsewhere in the draw is tournament Wildcard, Yousef Essam Farang, who is ranked World No.398. He will be up against India’s Velavan Senthilkumar in Round One, with a great opportunity to progress further into the competition.
