PSA World Tour Young Players of the Year – Vote Now

Some excellent young players have emerged during the 2022-23 season on the PSA World Tour, and you can vote for your favourite.

Fans can vote for their favourite male and female young players of the season in the links below, with voting closing at 23:59 (GMT+1) on Thursday August 10.

The winners announced on Saturday September 2 ahead of the finals of the Paris Squash Alpine.

Votes will be combined with the votes made by the PSA Awards Committee – a group consisting of selected influential former players, members of the media, tournament promoters and PSA Board representatives.

Here are the nominees for the awards.

PSA World Tour Men’s Young Player of the Year

Awarded to the male player aged 23 or Under who best demonstrated supreme athletic performance and achievement during the season.

Mostafa Asal

Mostafa Asal celebrates his win over Baptiste Masotti

Mostafa Asal became the third youngest male player to reach World No.1 when he topped the World Rankings for the first time back in January.

Asal, who enjoyed a 12-week stay at the summit, claimed four titles during the 2022-23 campaign, including retaining his PSA World Tour Finals crown for a third year in succession.

Moustafa El Sirty

Moustafa El Sirty had a successful title defence during the season, while he continued to make some important strides on the PSA World Tour.

The 21-year-old retained his CAS – Serena Hotels/Combaxx International Squash Championships title, and reached the last 16 of five events and a quarter-final appearance at Squash on Fire before his season was curtailed by injury.

Leonel Cardenas

Mexico’s Leonel Cardenas took home two titles on the Challenger Tour, and made his way into the top 30 in the World Rankings for the first time.

In his first event of 2023, the Mexican was a quarter-finalist at the Houston Open and a semi-finalist at the Canadian Open, losing to Joel Makin, who went on to win the tournament.

Yahya Elnawasany

Yahya Elnawasany reached a career high of World No.34 this season, and he began the season brightly with a quarter-final appearance at the Open de France de Squash before he reached the last 16 at the Qatar Classic – the first time he achieved that milestone at a Platinum event.

The 21-year-old notched further last 16 appearances at the Hong Kong Open, Malaysian Open and Squash on Fire.

Rowan Damming

Rowan Damming collected seven titles during the 2022-23 season, and made it his debut on the PSA World Tour at the World Championships.

The 2022 World Junior Champion faced the experienced Adrian Waller in the opening round in Chicago, with the Englishman progressing to the next round.

Amina Orfi

Amina Orfi celebrates her win over Olivia Clyne.

Amina Orfi enjoyed an excellent debut season on the PSA World Tour, with the 16-year-old claiming some big results.

The Junior World Champion reached the final of the Squash on Fire Open despite being the wildcard, defeating the likes of Nada Abbas and the tournament’s No.2 seed Sabrina Sobhy on the way to the final. Orfi also stunned USA No.3 Olivia Clyne at the World Championships in Chicago, and was narrowly beaten by World No.3 Hania El Hammamy in the third round.

Aifa Azman

21-year-old Aifa Azman broke into the top 25 in the World Rankings for the first time last year, and was a quarter-finalist on home turf at the Malaysian Open, losing out to Nele Gilis, who went on to win the event.

Azman progressed to the last 16 of the Hong Kong Open at the end of 2022, with Hania El Hammamy getting the better of her, and reached the last eight of the Carol Weymuller Open where she was foiled by top seed Olivia Fiechter.

Fayrouz Aboelkheir

Fayrouz Aboelkheir celebrates her win over Nour Aboulmakarim

Fayrouz Aboelkheir made an impressive start to the 2022-23 season after securing a semi-final berth at the Open de France de Squash, beating No.4 seed Melissa Alves along the way, before losing out to Tinne Gilis.

Aboelkheir clinched the Serena Hotels/Combaxx International Squash Championships and was a semi-finalist at the Cannon Kirk Gillen Markets Irish Squash Open.

Katie Malliff

The 2022-23 season saw Katie Malliff reach the third round of a Platinum event for the first time, where she achieved that feat at the Hong Kong Open.

Malliff, who broke into the top 50 before she turned 20, was runner-up at the Colwyn Classic and reached the last eight of Squash on Fire, with the eventual winner of the tournament Tinne Gilis defeating her.

Kenzy Ayman

Kenzy Ayman notched a hat-trick of title successes during the 2022-23 campaign, with all three victories on the Challenger Tour.

The 19-year-old clinched the 4th HCL SRFI Indian Tour Chennai Leg, the CSC Delaware Open and the Champion Fiberglass Women’s Open. Ayman also reached the last 16 of the Chestnut Hill Classic and the Canadian Women’s Open on the PSA World Tour.
