(All times are local – GMT -5)

17 days ago, Peru’s Diego Elias outclassed Egypt’s Marwan ElShorbagy in the final of the J.P. Morgan Tournament of Champions in New York City, claiming his second major title of the season. Today, the pair will do battle in another final, this time for the PSA World Tour Silver level Pittsburgh Open crown.

That victory in New York was a dominant one for the Peruvian, who played some of his best squash that week in Grand Central. In total, he has defeated ElShorbagy in 10 of their 13 previous meetings, but two of those three wins for ‘the Jackal’ did some in October 2022, at the Oracle NetSuite Open and the Grasshopper Cup.

Elias is currently on a 12-match unbeaten run, having won the J.P. Morgan Tournament of Champions and the Sturbridge Capital Motor City Open already in 2022, the latter being claimed fo a third successive time.

He has continued that form this week in Pittsburgh, getting the better of the returning Youssef Ibrahim in a tough second round clash. The Peruvian, who is currently at his career-high of World No.3, then got the better of Miguel Rodriguez and Mohamed Abouelghar in straight games to reach a sixth final of the season.

ElShorbagy is also through to his sixth final of the season, but he has spent 30 minutes extra on court this week. After downing Ramit Tandon in the last 16, ‘the Jackal’ had to go the distance in a quick contest with Mazen Hesham. His semi-final lasted 83 minutes, though some of that was due to a blood injury break. ElShorbagy downed Youssef Soliman in four games to advance to the final.

Can Elias secure a third straight title on Tour, and continue his push towards the summit of the World Rankings? Or can ElShorbagy get revenge for the humbling defeat in New York City just two weeks ago?
