11 February 2024

Karim Abdel Gawad and Marwan ElShorbagy will lock horns in tonight’s Pittsburgh Open final and all of the action will be streamed LIVE on SQUASHTV from 12:00 (GMT-5).

Here’s the Order of Play for tonight

(All times are local GMT-5)

Karim Abdel Gawad v Marwan ElShorbagy

Egypt’s Gawad and England’s ElShorbagy will go head-to-head for the 17th time on the PSA Tour tonight, with Gawad winning 11 of their previous encounters.

That includes their last three matches, with ElShorbagy’s most recent victory coming in the title decider of the CIB PSA World Tour Finals back in 2020.

Since then Gawad has won three on the bounce, all by a 3-0 scoreline, and you have to go back to 2016 for the last time a match between the pair went all the way to five games.

Gawad will appear in the final of this event for the third time in his career tonight having won the tournament in 2014 and 2015, while ElShorbagy was runner-up here last year, falling to Peru’s Diego Elias in the title decider.

To get this far, ElShorbagy claimed a comfortable win over Egypt’s Aly Hussein in round two, but was pushed to five games by France’s Sebastien Bonmalais in the quarter-finals, eventually sneaking a 12-10 win in the decider after 79 minutes of action.

He had another difficult task in the semi-finals, where he ousted Egypt’s Youssef Soliman, also in five games, and the Englishman will be hoping that there are no heavy legs when he takes on the mercurial Gawad today.

There will be solace in the fact that Gawad was put through his paces by compatriot Youssef Ibrahim in the last four, eventually prevailing after 80 minutes of punishing action.

ElShorbagy will be aiming for his first title of the season and will be up against an opponent who has already claimed the Grasshopper Cup and Malaysia Cup titles this campaign.
