Paris Squash 2024 Heading to Cirque d’Hiver Bouglione In First Platinum Event of PSA Squash Tour Season

14 August 2024

The highly anticipated Paris Squash 2024, the first Platinum event of the 2024/25 PSA Squash Tour season, is set to take place from September 15th to 21st. Returning for its second consecutive season, the tournament will be held at the historic Cirque d’Hiver Bouglione, the oldest active circus in the world and a renowned Parisian landmark.

Featuring 64 players across the men’s and women’s draws, the Paris Squash 2024 will showcase top-level squash at its finest. In addition to the Cirque d’Hiver Bouglione, matches will also be played at Squash Montmartre and Squash Horizon. Fans around the world can catch the action live on SQUASHTV and selected broadcast partners starting from the semi-finals.

The Cirque d’Hiver Bouglione, known for its rich history in circus arts, will be hosting its third professional squash event and the first since 1996. The venue’s first-ever squash event took place in 1983 and was won by the legendary Jahangir Khan. Over the years, the Cirque d’Hiver Bouglione has diversified its activities, hosting various shows including concerts, political meetings, and sports events.

The main draws for this year’s edition of the Paris Squash have been announced, with World No.1s Ali Farag and Nour ElSherbini confirmed as the top seeds in the men’s and women’s categories respectively. Farag, aiming for another impressive season, will face off against USA’s rising star Timothy Brownell in his first-round match. ElSherbini, on the other hand, will take on a qualifier as she seeks her eighth title on European soil.

In the women’s event, the No.2 seed is the current world champion Nouran Gohar. With a remarkable 25-match unbeaten streak and five consecutive victories in the 23/24 season, Gohar will be looking to avenge her final loss from last season and put pressure on ElSherbini at the top of the world rankings. Gohar’s first-round opponent will be her fellow Egyptian compatriot Nada Abbas, and she is scheduled to meet fierce rival Hania El Hammamy in the semi-finals if both players progress.

In the men’s event, two-time British Open champion Paul Coll is the No.2 seed. Coll, who had an intense 96-minute clash with the 2023 champion Ali Farag in last year’s semi-final, is determined to make his mark in the opening Platinum event of the new season. His first-round match will be against French No.4 Sebastien Bonmalais, adding an extra layer of excitement for the home crowd.

While the top seeds are expected to dominate, there are several players outside the top two who pose a threat to upset the seedings. Diego Elias, the new men’s world champion and runner-up in the 2023 event, is riding high on the confidence of his recent Cairo triumph and is certainly capable of claiming his first Platinum event win since January 2023. Another player to watch is Mostafa Asal, the current British Open champion, who ended the 23/24 season in great form and is eager to start the new campaign on a high note.

In the women’s draw, No.4 seed Nele Gilis, born less than 250 miles away from Paris in Geel, Belgium, will be hoping for strong support from friends and family as she aims to progress to the latter stages of the tournament and maintain her top four ranking.

The Paris Squash 2024 will also feature two wildcard positions, awarded to French teenagers Lauren Baltayan and Melvil Scianimanico. Baltayan will face Hong Kong, China’s Tomato Ho in the first round, while Scianimanico will take on England’s Adrian Waller.
