NASH Cup 2024: Preview

16 September 2024

The first ever PSA Squash Tour Copper-tier event, the NASH Cup 2024, begins tomorrow at London Squash & Fitness, Canada.

The NASH Cup – NASH Family Wealth Management, now in its 16th edition, will see 48 players across the men’s and women’s draws head to Ontario to battle it out for the title, with the action being shown on the tournament website.

Play begins from 15:00 (GMT-4) on 17 September, with the finals taking place from 18:00 on 21 September.

Among the notable entries is Canadian No.1 David Baillargeon, who will look to defend his 2023 title as the No.3 seed. The World No.41, who overcame USA’s Faraz Khan in last year’s final, receives a first round bye and will take on the winner of the match between England’s Ben Smith and Canada’s Salah Eltorgman.

Baillargeon and Eltorgman are among six Canadians who will be cheered to the rafters by the home crowd. Wildcard Brett Schille joins Baillargeon and Eltorgman in the men’s event, while No.5 seed Nicole Bunyan is joined by wildcards Iman Shaheen and Amal Izhar in the women’s draw.

If a member of the Canadian contingent is to go all the way, they will no doubt face stiff opposition from the top seeds. In the women’s draw, Scottish National Champion Georgia Adderley is top seed, with England’s Katie Malliff the No.2 seed.

In the men’s event, Egypt’s Yahya Elnawasany – a quarter-finalist in 2023 – is the favourite, with England’s Curtis Malik the No.2 seed.

A potential tournament dark horse is No.8 seed Mohamad Zakaria. Despite being ranked World No.58, the Egyptian will not be taken lightly by any in London, with the 16-year-old becoming the youngest ever winner of the WSF World Junior Championships earlier this year.
