Mostafa Asal Withdraws From Upcoming Manchester Open

21 May 2024

World No.4 Mostafa Asal has unfortunately been forced to withdraw from the Manchester Open due to a knee injury he sustained in the PSA World Championships final.

England’s Marwan ElShorbagy, the World No.9, will replace Asal as the top seed in the men’s draw of the PSA World Tour Silver event that gets underway tomorrow.

World No.10 Joel Makin has subsequently moved up to No.2 seed and will now face one of England duo Finnlay Withington or George Parker in Round 2 after a first-round bye. Meanwhile, Egyptian duo Youssef Soliman and Youssef Ibrahim have moved up to No.3 seed and No.4 seed, respectively.

England’s Nathan Lake has been upgraded from a 9/16 seed to the No.8 seed in the event, and will now receive a first-round bye. The 31-year-old will play either new 9/16 seed Rui Soares, or Wales’ Emyr Evans in the second round.

Rising star Jonah Bryant is Asal’s replacement in the draw, with the 18-year-old set to play fellow Englishman Nick Wall in the first round.
