Malaysia Cup QFs: Home Favourite Yow Ng Completes Semi-Finals Line-Up

8 November 2023

Top ranked Malaysian Eain Yow Ng completed the men’s semi-final line-up at the Ace Malaysia Squash Cup after a convincing win over France’s Sebastien Bonmalais in Seremban.

The Malaysian found a solid length early in the contest, and got to work on moving Bonmalais into all four corners right from the start. Yow moved ahead on the scoreboard to take control of the first game and closed it out 11-6.

The second game was a lot closer as Bonmalais started to find his range at the front of the court and used his silky movement to counter attack Ng. Despite this, the Malaysian increased his accuracy to restrict the Frenchman and after a poor error from Bonmalais at a crucial moment, Yow stole the game 11-9.

The end came quick for a returning Bonmalais who struggled to keep up with the pace and accuracy of the No.4 seed. Yow was finding top form in his attacks and never let go of the lead that he established early in game three. A 3-0 win for the crowd favourite sets him up with a semi-final against Karim Abdel Gawad.

“I had the upper hand on the backhand side and was putting pressure on him,” said Eain Yow.

“Physically not so much, but mentally. I kept him away from the ’T’ and made sure he didn’t get those easy volleys. I think I forced a few errors from his volley and I thought my length was really good today.

“It’s going to be a tough match for sure, Karim is in great form. I’ve always played well her in Malaysia and I’m in good form too and confident, so let’s see what I have for tomorrow.”

Result:

[4] Eain Yow Ng (MAS) bt [6] Sebastien Bonmalais (FRA) 3-0: 11-6, 11-9, 11-2 (39m)
