King Headlines 2023 Cleveland Classic Draw

22 December 2022

World No.4 Joelle King has been named as the No.1 seed for the 2023 Cleveland Classic, PSA World Tour Silver event, which will take place between February 1-5 at the Cleveland Racquet Club.

New Zealand’s King was in red-hot form towards the end of 2022 following title wins at the New Zealand Open and the Singapore Open, while she reached the semi-final of the Hong Kong Open earlier this month.

The 34-year-old will headline a draw that features six of the world’s top 10 women, with United States No.1 Amanda Sobhy, Egypt’s Nour El Tayeb, England’s Sarah-Jane Perry, Belgium’s Nele Gilis and United States No.2 Olivia Fiechter all lining up in Ohio to battle for the winner’s share of the $75,000 prize pot.

King receives a bye into round two where she will go up against either England’s Jasmine Hutton or Egypt’s Hana Ramadan. From there, the Kiwi is seeded to play Fiechter in the last eight, before a potential semi-final battle with El Tayeb.

World No.5 Sobhy is seeded at No.2 and the 29-year-old will play either Emily Whitlock of Wales or Melissa Alves of France in the last 16. From there, a last eight fixture with No.7 seed Tinne Gilis is on the cards, before a predicted semi-final showdown with Perry.
