Kennedy & Eain Yow To Headline Squash in the Land Presented by Greater Cleveland Squash

12 February 2024

The draws for the Squash in the Land Presented by Greater Cleveland Squash 2024 have been released with England’s Georgina Kennedy topping the women’s Silver event draw and Malaysia’s Eain Yow Ng leading the men’s Bronze event.

The event will take place from 5-10 March with the early rounds being played from three different venues across Cleveland: The Cleveland Skating Club, Cleveland Racquet Club and Urban Squash Cleveland. The quarter finals onwards will be played on an all-glass court inside the Outcalt Theatre at Playhouse Square.

The action will be streamed live on SQUASHTV

Kennedy holds fond memories of Cleveland as she was victorious in the 2023 Cleveland Classic, beating Olivia Clyne in the final. Kennedy returns to Ohio as the top seed this year and will be hoping to claim her first trophy of the season. She will face either Canada’s Danielle Ray or Ainaa Amami in the second round after an opening round bye.

Egypt’s Nour El Tayeb is the No.2 seed for the event as she looks to claim a third World Tour title of the season. The Egyptian is a former winner of the Cleveland Classic, winning the 2019 and 2020 editions of the event. She’ll be hoping to draw on previous success’ to lift the title once again in Cleveland.

No.3 seed Olivia Weaver recently added another World Tour title to her tally as she claimed the Cincinnati Gaynor Cup in emphatic style. Weaver is the leading American in the draw and will be looking to draw on the home support to put together another strong week of squash.

Eain Yow will enter the tournament as the top seed for the first time in a World Tour event as he looks to claim a second title in Cleveland. The Malaysian captured the Cleveland Skating Club Open Challenger 30 event in 2022 and will be determined to perform strongly once again.

Exciting Egyptian Youssef Ibrahim is the second seed as he hunts down a first title since August 2019. The Egyptian’s skill and talent is undoubted and with injury woes seemingly behind him, the 24-year-old will be looking to push on and reassert himself inside the top 20. Ibrahim will receive a first round bye with a match against Addeen Idrakie or Perry Malik waiting in round two.

British duo Greg Lobban and Nathan Lake occupy the third and fourth seeding positions. Scotland’s Lobban reached his first Platinum event quarter final at the start of the season at the QTerminals Qatar Classic but has failed to move past the last 16 in the following four World Tour events. The World No.23 will be eyeing up this event as a good chance to better his seeding and reach a second final of the season.

New York based Lake is yet to reach the semi-final stages of a World Tour event, his best finish coming at the Hong Kong FC Open, where he lost out to Iker Pajares in the quarter finals. Lake performed admirably against England No.1 Mohamed Elshorbagy in the recent J.P Morgan Tournament of Champions and should take confidence from that as he looks to move closer to breaking into he world’s top 20 for the first time.
