Houston Open 2023: Preview & How to Watch Live

10 January 2023

The Houston Open 2023 gets underway tomorrow from the Houston Squash Club in Texas, USA. The PSA Gold event will run from 11-15 January and features five of the world’s top ten all bidding to claim the first PSA World Tour event of the season.

Due to the withdrawal of World No.1 Ali Farag, new top seed Mostafa Asal has been given the chance to claim top spot in the rankings if he reaches the final of the event. The Hong Kong Open champion will play either compatriot Moustafa El Sirty or England’s Nathan Lake in his opening match in round two.

England No.1 Mohamed ElShorbagy is the No.2 seed for the event and will be looking to capture his fourth title of the 2022/23 season this week. ElShorbagy has already captured a Gold event title this season, after picking up the MARIGOLD Singapore Open and will open his campaign in Houston against either Mexico’s Cesar Salazar or France’s Baptiste Masotti.

Egyptian duo Marwan ElShorbagy and Mazen Hesham are the 3/4 seeds for the event and are both looking to build on victories that they scored at the end of 2022 at the Malaysian Open and Hong Kong FC Open. ElShorbagy will play the winner of the match between the wildcard Arhan Chandra and Raphael Kandra. Whilst, Hesham will play either France’s Sebastien Bonmalais or compatriot Aly Abou Elienen.

There are eight round one matches on day one in Houston, with play starting at 12:00 (GMT-6) from the Houston Squash Club. You can watch all the action on SQUASHTV here.
