Gohar Captures Third Consecutive Black Ball Squash Open Title

16 April 2024

Top seed Nouran Gohar has claimed her third consecutive title at the Black Ball Squash Open after powering past No.2 seed Olivia Weaver in straight games.

‘The Terminator’ delivered a relentless performance to take the title at the PSA World Tour Gold event in Cairo, taking the victory by an 11-7, 11-5 11-7 scoreline in just under 40 minutes of action.

In trademark style, Gohar was quick out of the blocks, hitting aggressively down both wings and putting Weaver under considerable pressure. After racing into a 7-1 lead, there was no coming back for Weaver in the first, as Gohar took the opener after 13 minutes of action.

The World No.3 continued to apply the pressure as the match progressed, forcing Weaver into a number of errors in the front of the court, with the American being pushed around all four corners of the court in an attempt to combat Gohar’s attacking weapons.

The mix-up of Gohar’s boast was a particularly useful tool as the defending champion doubled her advantage in the match, with the deception down both wings stalling the movement of Weaver.

After taking the second 11-5, and moving into an early lead in the third, there only looked to be one winner, with Gohar sealing victory with a straight backhand kill.

After the match, Gohar said: “As I have said before, this is home, literally my home. I live like five minutes away from here and I’m very thankful to the Black Ball management team that I can hit when I want. I’m very lucky to have such a facility. This is the best facility, not just in Egypt, but in the world.

“It’s just amazing to be honest. I was very happy to not be playing an Egyptian, because sometimes it is half the crowd on your side and the other for the other player. But today they were all cheering for me.”

Result:

[1] Nouran Gohar (EGY) bt [2] Olivia Weaver (USA) 3-0: 11-7, 11-5, 11-7 (38m)
