German Open 2024 Quarter-Finals: Preview & How To Watch Live

5 April 2024

It’s quarter-finals day of the German Open 2024 Presented by Sportwerk, with 16 players battling it out for a place in the last four of the PSA World Tour Bronze event.

Action will get underway at 12:00 (GMT+2) from the all-glass court in Hamburg, with every match available to watch live on SQUASHTV.

The day’s play will get underway with a first PSA Tour meeting between No.3 seed Georgina Kennedy and No.5 seed Fayrouz Aboelkheir. The Englishwoman will be looking to make her eighth semi-final appearance of the season on tour, but faces a tough prospect in 18-year-old Aboelkheir, who is enjoying a rich vein of form since the turn of the year – notably having won the British Junior U19 Open and finishing runner-up at the Carol Weymuller Open.

Elsewhere in the women’s draw, the top two seeds in the event, Nele and Tinne Gilis, will face No.7 seed Malak Khafagy and No.6 seed Tesni Murphy for a spot in the semi-finals. World No.8 Tinne defeated Murphy in straight games earlier this season at the New Zealand Open, but the Welshwoman was fresh off the back of a substantial injury at that time, and has only moved from strength to strength since then. World No.4 Nele, meanwhile, will meet Khafagy for the first time on the PSA Tour.

In the men’s draw, Malaysia’s hunt for a third winner in the last two weeks on the PSA Tour continues when No.4 seed Eain Yow Ng takes to the court against India’s Velavan Senthilkumar, while Spain’s Bernat Jaume, who conquered No.2 seed Marwan ElShorbagy in the previous round, squares off against No.6 seed Dimitri Steinmann. Top seed Joel Makin looked in rock-solid form during his opening round victory over the dangerous Englishman Tom Walsh, and will face another tricky test today in the form of left-handed No.7 seed Timothy Brownell.

The final two matches of the day include home players, with Saskia Beinhard and Raphael Kandra looking to continue their superb weeks as they face off against No.4 seed Salma Hany and No.3 seed Mohamed ElSherbini. Both players looked at home on the all-glass court in The Sportwerk Centre yesterday as they overcame Swiss duo Cindy Merlo and Yannick Wilhelmi in two high-quality second-round matches, respectively.
