12 June 2024

The last Platinum event of the 2023/24 PSA World Tour season concluded on Sunday, with Mostafa Asal and Nouran Gohar capturing the British Open titles at The Rep Theatre, Birmingham.

Asal defeated World No.1 Ali Farag in a fifth-game tie-break in the final to capture his first British Open title, while Nouran Gohar won her fourth straight title on the PSA World Tour after defeating top seed Nour El Sherbini in the women’s final.

We’ve picked a selection of our favourite images from the tournament, from the incredible athleticism of the players to the range of emotions associated with winning and losing.

Photographers Choice

PSA Videographer Rob Ellis highlighted this photo of Olivia Weaver during her British Open quarter-final with Nour El Sherbini as a particular favourite of his.

He said: “I noticed during Olivia Weaver and Nour El Sherbini’s match that a huge wave of static electricity had descended on the court. This is probably one of my favourite photos captured so far on the PSA World Tour!”

PSA photographer Steve Line selected this image of Joel Makin celebrating his epic victory over Youssef Ibrahim as his favourite photo of the week.

He said: “Joel Makin’s raw emotion leaps off the screen as he celebrates winning his first ever British Open match against a dejected Youssef Ibrahim.”

Photographer Leo Sochor Grethe has picked the above image of Nour El Tayeb as his favourite photo of the week.

He said: “As Salma Hany hit a drop shot from the centre of the court to the front right I felt that Nour was going to hit a great shot to return the ball. When I saw that Nour was about to dive or lunge for the ball, I started to hold down my shutter button hoping that something would come out of it. However, the photo that came out best was Nour hitting the ball and watching the ball to see where it had landed.

“Since starting to photograph squash, I have wanted to get a picture of a player diving and a photo of someone doing the splits. So to get this photo was really amazing.”
