Former World Champion Momen Tops QSF 3 2024 Draw

23 April 2024

Former World Champion and current World No.8 Tarek Momen has been named as the No.1 seed in the QSF 3 Bronze-level event, which will be the 33rd PSA World Tour tournament of the season and will take place from May 22-26 at Doha’s Khalifa International Tennis & Squash Complex.

Momen won the opening PSA World Tour event of the season at the Windsor Cup in Canada and will be looking to score his second trophy of the 2023-24 campaign as he heads back to a place that holds fond memories for the Egyptian. Momen won his PSA World Championship title in this venue back in 2019 so will no doubt relish the opportunity to claim more silverware in a place that means so much. Momen will take on the winner of Tayyab Aslam and Aly Hussein after a round one bye.

Compatriot Aly Abou Eleinen is the No.2 seed for the event and is also looking to capture a second World Tour title of the season after victory at the Hong Kong Football Club back in December. Eleinen recently scored a big win over World No.6 Mazen Hesham at the El Gouna International Squash Open and will be determined to build on that to chase down the world’s top 10. He will play either Japan’s Ryunosuke Tsukue or France’s Toufik Mekhalfi in round two.

Malaysia’s Eain Yow Ng played some of the best squash of his career earlier this month to claim the German Open title in Hamburg. The World No.18 is determined to play his own style of squash and claim the wins that he knows he is capable of. Another World Tour title would certainly be a big boost for the 26-year-old. His opening match could see him face compatriot Addedn Idrakie if the 9/16 seed can get past talented Egyptian Yassin Elshafei in round one.

Local favourite Abdulla Al-Tamimi loves playing on home soil, so much so that he has already claimed three titles this season in this venue. The only match that he has lost in Doha this season was to top seed Momen in the QTerminals Qatar Classic. Al-Tamimi will be spurred on by an adoring crowd as he looks to claim a seventh tournament win on home soil. He will start his campaign in round two against one of Ibrahim Elkabbani or Sanjay Jeeva.

European duo Auguste Dussourd and Dimitri Steinmann are the No.5 and No.6 seeds for the event. The pair will be looking to cause upsets to surpass their seeding and earn valuable ranking points. Steinmann is seeded to play No.2 seed Eleinen if the two advance whilst Dussourd is due to meet No.3 seed Yow Ng.

Egyptian pair Omar Mosaad and Karim El Hammamy compete the 5/8 seeds. ‘Hammer of Thor’ Mosaad will be heading to Doha for the 20th time in his career and is looking for a first title win in Qatar. He is set to face top seed Tarek Momen in the quarter-finals after a round two clash with either Velavan Senthilkumar or event wildcard Yousef Essam Farag. El Hammamy is in the portion of the draw with local hero Al-Tamimi but will need to get past Tom Walsh or Shahjahan Khan first.
