Elias & Kennedy Named PSA World Tour Players of the Month For January
Peru’s Diego Elias and England’s Georgina Kennedy have been named the PSA World Tour Players of the month for January 2023 after both claiming impressive wins in the USA.
Elias secured his third Platinum event win in January, winning the J.P Morgan Tournament of Champions title for the first time in New York City. The ‘Peruvian Puma’ was the No.4 seed for the event and defeated Egyptian duo Mohamed ElSherbini and Tarek Momen to reach the semi-finals. He then needed four games to beat top seed Paul Coll in an 85 minute encounter. He controlled the final from start to finish as he confidently overcame Marwan ElShorbagy 3-0, 11-2, 11-6, 11-4.
England’s Georgina Kennedy has been plagued by injuries this season but returned to World Tour action in January after last featuring in the MARIGOLD Singapore Open in November. Kennedy was the No.2 seed in the Carol Weymuller Open and stormed to victory, winning all games 3-0, including the final against USA’s Olivia Fiechter. The Bronze event win for the World No.11 is her first since the Cleveland Classic last January.
Kennedy then moved onto the J.P Morgan Tournament of Champions where she was unseeded but defeated Belgium’s Tinne Gilis in five games before downing No.7 seed Rowan Elaraby again in five games. She would then lose out to World No.3 Hania El Hammamy in the last eight.
