Olivia Clyne v Olivia Fiechter

The opening match of the evening will see two Americans go head-to-head for a place in Saturday’s final in Detroit, as Olivia Clyne and Olivia Fiechter will do battle.

The pair have met three times on Tour previously, including in last week’s Cleveland Classic, when Clyne took the win in straight games to move into the final. She holds a 100% record over her compatriot, thanks to another pair of wins in Calgary and Edinburgh in 2019.

The head-to-head record between Clyne and Fiechter
Ranking: Clyne 17, Fiechter 11
Matches: Clyne 350, Fiechter 134
Wins: Clyne 183, Fiechter 80
Titles: Clyne 7, Fiechter 3
Finals: Clyne 12, Fiechter 9
Age: Clyne 30, Fiechter 27
Head-to-head: Clyne leads 3-0

After making the final in Cleveland last week, Clyne has continued that form in Detroit. She has only dropped a single game, and beaten two players ranked higher than her. Hong Kong’s Chan Sin Yuk was beaten in the opening round, before the American got the better of Belgian No.2 Tinne Gilis and World No.4 Joelle King to make the last four, knocking out the top seed in a four-game contest on quarter finals night.

Meanwhile, after receiving a bye through the opening day’s action, Fiechter has then gotten the better of a pair of Egyptians to make it into the last four. She downed Sana Ibrahim in straight games in the second round, before then overcoming the challenge of Nada Abbas to reach the semis.

Can Clyne make it into a second final in as many weeks on this North American swing? Or will Fiechter record her first win over her compatriot to make the final?

Salma Hany v Georgina Kennedy

The second semi-final of the evening will pit Egypt’s Salma Hany against England’s Georgina Kennedy for a place in Saturday’s finale in Detroit.

This will be only the second match between the duo on Tour, with the Englishwoman having come through a tough encounter at the CIB Black Ball Open in March 2022. She won 11-9, 9-11, 11-9, 11-7 that day, and will be looking to do the same again here.

The head-to-head record between Hany and Kennedy
Ranking: Hany 12, Kennedy 9
Matches: Hany 264, Kennedy 129
Wins: Hany 148, Kennedy 94
Titles: Hany 3, Kennedy 11
Finals: Hany 8, Kennedy 14
Age: Hany 26, Kennedy 25
Head-to-head: Kennedy leads 1-0

Both women have come through their two matches so far without dropping a game. After receiving a first round bye, Hany got the better of England’s Lucy Turmel and Belgium’s Nele Gilis to book her spot in the semis, with both matches finishing in 34 minutes.

Kennedy also had a bye into the last 16, and then downed Melissa Alves in straight games to get her campaign underway. She then got the better of No.2 seed Rowan Elaraby for the second time in as many months to book her semi-final berth.

After winning in Cleveland last week, can Kennedy keep her winning run going? Or will Hany down the Englishwoman for the first time on Tour?
