Olivia Clyne v Georgina Kennedy

World No.20 Clyne will line up in her first PSA final since November 2019 after a sensational victory over fellow American and World No.10 Olivia Fiechter in the previous round.

That victory was Clyne’s first over Fiechter after two previous defeats on the PSA Tour, and the 30-year-old will need to end an identical record against Kennedy if she is to win her first title for over three years.

Kennedy has won both of their previous encounters, prevailing 3-1 in the second round of the Allam British Open in March of last year to go with her 3-0 win over the United States No.4 in the quarter-finals of the Cincinnati Gaynor Cup a month previously.

It’s the first time the pair have met in a PSA final and, while Clyne has had to wait a while to appear in a title decider, Kennedy is no stranger to competing for trophies, with the 25-year-old taking silverware at the Carol Weymuller Open last month.

Kennedy has only been on court for 42 minutes across both her quarter-final and semi-final matches here in Cleveland, with No.2 seed Amanda Sobhy retiring through injury from the former and Hong Kong’s Tomato Ho being put to the sword in the latter.

Clyne has also made the most of an injury – a foot problem brought her last eight fixture with Nour El Tayeb to a premature end – but was in fine form to dispatch Fiechter in a surprise victory. Does Clyne have enough in the tank to end her title drought? Tune in to SQUASHTV later on to find out.
