CIB Egyptian Open 2024 – Quarter Finals: How to Watch Live
The opening major event of the 2024/25 PSA Squash Tour season continues day as play reaches the quarter final stages of the CIB Egyptian Open Diamond level event.
Four top class matches are in store tonight as eight players look to be the first to book semi-final places in Cairo. Play starts at 19:00 (GMT+3) – streamed live on SQUASHTV with live scores available here.
There is plenty of home interest tonight with at least one Egyptian in each contest. No.3 seed Hania El Hammamy opens play as she faces England’s Georgina Kennedy. El Hammamy admitted that last season was not her best and she’ll be hoping to start strongly in this event with at least a semi-final appearance.
An all-Egyptian clash follows as top seed Ali Farag takes on the always-dangerous Mazen Hesham. Farag holds a commanding 18-2 head to head record against Hesham but has been troubled in recent meetings with two of the last three clashes going to five games. Can Hesham utilise his firepower to become only the fourth player to beat Farag in 2024?
Women’s World No.1 Nour El Sherbini takes on newly crowned European Individual champion Tinne Gilis in the third match of the day. The younger Gilis sister is yet to score a win over El Sherbini in nine attempts but came close with two attempts in 2022. She’ll be hoping that she can carry her form from Spain into this contest and cause a huge upset.
The final match of the first quarter final day is a clash between the old guard and the new generation as Tarek Momen – now in his 20th season on tour – takes on the World Champion Diego Elias. The pair met at the end of last season at the El Gouna International which saw Momen win after play was moved to a side court due to weather conditions affecting the outdoor glass court. This fixture has always been an intriguing one but with a 13-4 head-to-head lead, Momen will be itching to score another win over the Peruvian on home soil to progress.
