Canadian Men’s Open QF: Soliman Magnificent in Win v Mueller
In the last match of the day, No.3 seed Youssef Soliman excelled in a 3-0 win over No.5 seed Nicolas Mueller.
Soliman started quickly to move 5-0 up in the first game, only for Mueller to reel him in.
Soliman then regained the lead and never looked back, taking game one 11-7.
Game two was the Youssef Soliman show, with the Egyptian scoring point after point with straight drops as he took a commanding lead through an 11-2 win.
The third game was a more even affair, with Mueller capitalising on errors from Soliman.
The Egyptian, though, was able to keep his nose ahead, clinching the win 11-8 to set up a semi-final with compatriot Mazen Hesham.
Afterwards, he said: “I’m very pleased with the way I played. It’s always tricky playing him, he’s so experienced and knows how to stretch you and win quick points.
“It’s always exciting playing Mazen. He’s a good guy on court and off court, so I’m really looking forward to it and let’s see how it goes; I’m excited!”
