Victor Crouin v Joel Makin

World No.10 Victor Crouin will take on World No.11 Joel Makin for the Oxford Properties Canadian Men’s Open presented by AirSprint Private Aviation title this evening in Calgary.

This will be the fifth meeting between the pair, with the Welshman holding a 3-1 record. However, it was Crouin who claimed the win in their most recent clash, beating Makin 3-1 in the second round at the QTerminals Qatar Classic in 2022, n his way to a first major final. Makin’s last win over the Frenchman came at the CIB Egyptian Squash Open in 2019.

The pair came into the tournament as the top two seeds, with both receiving first round byes. Since then, Makin is yet to drop a game, having won all three matches in Calgary in straight games. He has beaten USA’s Andrew Douglas, England’s Nick Wall and Mexican No.1 Leonel Cardenas to make it into a 15th Tour final.

Meanwhile, Crouin has spent almost an hour more on court this week. He beat Hungarian No.1 Balazs Farkas in straight games in the second round, before then getting the better of Egypt’s Mohamed ElSherbini in the last eight. The Frenchman then spent 85 minutes on court last night in a great battle with Colombian Miguel Rodriguez, eventually coming through in four games.

Crouin is into a sixth final of the season, can he take yet another title? Or will Makin secure a second PSA World Tour title following his success in Manchester last year?
