Canadian Men’s Open 2024 – Semi-Finals: Preview & How to Watch Live

6 March 2024

We’re down to the final four at the Canadian Men’s Open 2024 Presented by AirSprint Private Aviation as top three seeds Diego Elias, Mazen Hesham and Youssef Soliman are joined by Hungary’s Farkas Balazs in the semi-finals in Calgary.

Action gets underway from 17:45 (GMT-7) on the all-glass court in Bow Valley Square in Calgary with both matches available to watch live on SQUASHTV.

Order of play: Semi-Finals

Elias v Farkas

Elias and Farkas will be meeting for the first time on the PSA Tour tonight as they look to secure the first spot in the Silver event final. Peru’s Elias has slipped to World No.3 in the latest rankings and will be determined to claw back the deficit to World No.2 Paul Coll. Elias has cruised his way through to his 44th World Tour semi-final, not surrendering a game so far.

Farkas Balazs is having his best tournament to date this week, scoring two impressive wins over Abdulla Al Tamimi and Dimitri Steinmann to reach his first World Tour semi-final. Farkas has shown signs all season of producing some big upsets and has showcased his best squash in Calgary so far. He’ll need to raise his level once again if he is to score the biggest win of his career over former World No.1 Elias.

Hesham v Soliman

An all-Egyptian clash will decide the second final place as Mazen Hesham and Youssef Soliman will battle it out for the third time in their careers. Soliman leads the head to head record 2-1 and won the last match between the two, at the 2023 Optasia Championships. Soliman has held either the No.11 or No.12 spot in the PSA rankings for the past 20 months and will be itching to finally break into the top 10.

Hesham has been in superb form of late and now sits just 90 points off the World No.5 position, a milestone that ‘The Black Falcon’ will be determined to reach sooner rather than later. Hesham has already reached a final this year, at the year opening Florida Open, he will no doubt be hopeful of reaching a second final in 2024 tonight as he looks to chase down Karim Abdel Gawad and Mohamed Elshorbagy in the PSA Rankings.
