7 March 2024

The top two seeds have reached the final of the Canadian Men’s Open presented by AirSprint Private Aviation in Calgary. Diego Elias and Mazen Hesham will take to the court for the third time already this year to compete for the Silver event title.

Elias overcame Hungary’s surprise semi-finalist Farkas Balazs yesterday in ruthless fashion, surrendering just eight points throughout the whole match and never more than 3 points in a single game. Hesham came through an all-Egyptian clash with Youssef Soliman in his semi-final and showed similar domination to Elias as ‘the Black Falcon’ won 3-0, 11-6, 11-5, 11-4.

The final commences at 18:15 (GMT-7) live on SQUASHTV.

Order of play: Final

The pair have already met twice in 2024, with both players picking up a victory. Hesham defeated Elias in the Florida Open semi-finals, ending a nine-match losing streak agains the Peruvian. The World No.3 got his revenge soon after at the J.P Morgan Tournament of Champions, winning in straight games.

Elias has featured in five finals so far this season, but has only converted once at the Motor City Open. He will be determined to capture his second title of the season to close the gap between himself and new World No.2 Paul Coll with a win today.

Hesham is enjoying the best period of his career so far, claiming several impressive victories to put himself in contention for a place in the top five. Despite the positive performances of late, Hesham is still yet to claim a title since November 2022. He will be looking to change that tonight in Calgary.
