Al Tamimi Returns to Top 20 in PSA Men’s World Rankings

Qatar’s Abdulla Al Tamimi has risen three places to No.18 following his triumph at the QSF 5, PSA Challenger Tour 30 event last week.

Al Tamimi won the 10th PSA title of his career – and his third of the season – when he overcame Colombia’s Juan Camilo Vargas to win 11-5, 12-10, 8-11, 11-9 at the Khalifa International Tennis & Squash Complex in Doha.

Al Tamimi has been in red hot form on home soil, winning all three of his titles this season in Doha, including the QSF 4 event in October, which was his biggest tournament win to date.

Karim El Hammamy

New Ranking: No.38

Previous Ranking: No.41

Egypt’s Karim El Hammamy has risen three spots to No.38 after reaching the semi-finals in Doha.

The 28-year-old beat former World No.1 James Willstrop and compatriot Aly Hussein to reach the last four, where he came unstuck against Vargas, going down in four games.

New Ranking: No.41

Previous Ranking: No.42

USA’s Timothy Brownell moves up one place to No.41. 

The 26-year-old from Philadelphia will look to break into the top 40 when he competes at the J.P. Morgan Tournament of Champions next month.

Previous Ranking: No.55

Englishman George Parker is at his highest ranking since October, moving up six places as a result of his semi-final finish at the QSF 5.

He overcame Spain’s Ivan Perez Saavedra and Egypt’s Seif El-Shenawy to reach the semis, where he fell to eventual winner Al Tamimi by a 3-1 scoreline.
