Ace Malaysia Squash Cup 2023: Preview & How To Watch Live

5 November 2023

The Ace Malaysia Squash Cup 2023 is set to get underway tomorrow, with Egyptian duo Mostafa Asal and Nour El Tayeb drawn as the top seeds for the event in Seremban.

The Bronze-level event will see 24 men’s and women’s players compete for the title at the S2 Sports Complex, with squash fans able to watch all of the action live on SQUASHTV between November 6-10.

In the men’s draw, World No.4 Asal will look to bounce back from his Grasshopper Cup quarter-final defeat to Baptiste Masotti, with the Egyptian set to play one of Christopher Gordon or Japan’s Ryunosuke Tsukue in his opening bout.

From there, Asal is seeded to play India’s Saurav Ghosal in the quarter-final and No.3 seed Victor Crouin in the last four.

Meanwhile, Karim Abdel Gawad will look to make it two titles from as many events when he returns to action in Malaysia. The World No.6 was back to his very best in Zurich, battling past both ElShorbagy brothers en route to the final, before defeating Joel Makin in four games to clinch the title.

The former World Champion will play either Tsz Kwan Lau or Egypt’s Yassin Elshafei in the second-round, before a potential quarter-final clash against No.7 seed Dimitri Steinmann if the event were to go to seedings. From there, Gawad is seeded to play Malaysia’s Eain yow Ng in the last four.

In the women’s event, No.1 seed El Tayeb will look to claim her second title of the season after her prior success at the South Western Open. The World No.6 is due to face one of Saskia Beinhard or Tsz-Wing Tong in her opening match before a potential quarter-final meeting with teenage sensation Amina Orfi.

Elsewhere, Malaysian 21-year-old Aifa Azman, who reached the quarter-finals of the 2022 Malaysian Open, will open her account against 9/16-seeded Ka Yi Lee or Nadia Pfister, while also sitting in the same quarter as Sivasangari Subramaniam.

In the bottom half of the draw, a trio of Egyptian seeds will hope to reach the latter stages of the Bronze-level event, with Farida Mohamed seeded No.2, Nadine Shahin drawn as the 4th seed, and Sana Ibrahim the 8th seed.

Malaysian Open 2019 champion Rachel Arnold returns to her home event as No.5 seed, with a second-round match against either Yasshmita Jadishkumar or Aira Azman awaiting.

Action from both the glass court and the side court in Seremban will be available to watch live on SQUASHTV, while you can find the full draw for the Malaysia Cup 2023 here.
