16-Year-Old Amina Orfi Reaches Women’s Top 20

17 October 2023

Egypt’s teenage superstar Amina Orfi has become becomes the second youngest player ever to reach the women’s top 20, doing so at just 16 years and 4 months old.

Orfi is bettered only by fellow Egyptian Habiba Mohamed, who was 16 years and three days old when she achieved the impressive feat in June 2015

Orfi reached the last 16 in the second Platinum event of the season at the Qatar Classic but went one better at the recent U.S Open, losing out yet again to USA No.1 Amanda Sobhy in the final eight. Orfi gained 16 places in this weeks rankings to leapfrog many experienced professionals to reach the top 20 milestone.

The previously mentioned Sobhy has also risen a place in this month’s rankings and has moved back to World No.5 ahead of Egypt’s Nour El Tayeb who slips to No.6.

Due to Nouran Gohar not being able to compete at the recent U.S Open, runner-up Hania El Hammamy has managed to shorten the gap between herself and the World No.2 making the run in to the new year very interesting for the World No.2 spot.
