White Oaks QF: Damming and Crowne Gatecrash Semis

The quarter finals of the White Oaks Court Classic threw up some surprises, as Canadian George Crowne and Dutchman Rowan Damming both took out higher-seeded players to gatecrash the last four in St Catharines.

Both matches in the bottom half of the draw went the way of the lower ranked player. Crowne took on No.2 seed Michael McCue in the quarter finals, and found himself behind after the opening game. However, the Canadian fought back to win in four games, showing his quality throughout the rest of the contest. 

He will now take on Dutchman Rowan Damming, the No.8 seed, in the last four of the competition. The reigning World Junior Champion overcame the tournament’s No.4 seed, Liam Marrison, in his quarter final tie. The pair were level after two games, but Damming edged ahead with an 11-9 win in the third. The fourth then went to a tie-break, with the Dutchman eventually taking it 15-13 to book his place in the semis.

The other semi-final in St Catharines will see the Canadian duo of Nick Sachvie and Salah Eltorgman do battle on Friday evening. Sachvie, the top seed, downed compatriot Cory McCartney in straight games. Meanwhile, Eltorgman overcame Mexico’s Miled Zarazua to advance.
