Wake Up Angers: Moller Takes First Victory On Tour

19 November 2022

Top seed Klara Moller secured her maiden Tour title, as she won an all-Danish final at the Wake Up Squash Angers International on Friday evening.

The World No.116 came into the Challenger 3 level competition as the top seed, and she started off with a tricky five-game battle against Portugal’s Catarina Nunes. Moller led by two games, but saw the Portuguese woman fight back to level the contest. The Dane was able to gather herself, though, and regrouped to battle through the deciding fifth game, winning it 11-9 to advance to the last eight.

From there on, it was slightly easier for the Dane. She claimed victory over France’s Ella Galova, the No.4 seed, in the quarter finals, despite losing a third game tie-break 15-13. She then went on to face another Frenchwoman, in No.7 seed Kara Lincou, in the semis. Once again, she lost a third game tie-break, but the Dane still came through in four games.

The final pitted Moller against compatriot and No.3 seed Caroline Lyng in an all-Danish final. A tight first game went the way of the top seed, and thanks to that, she was able to carry the momentum throughout the rest of the game. Moller won in straight games to secure her maiden Tour title, winning 11-9, 11-4, 11-8 in 29 minutes in Angers.
