Vikram Goyal Open RD2: Unseeded Gohary and Fathy Set Up Last Eight Clash

The unseeded Egyptian duo of Lojayn Gohary and Malak Fathy will meet in the quarter finals of the Vikram Goyal SRFI Open.

The pair both came into the Challenger 10 women’s competition unseeded, but both scored surprise wins on the second day in Delhi. Fathy took on No.4 seed Nadeen Kotb, her fellow Egyptian, at the Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium on Sunday. She needed just 21 minutes, winning in straight games to move through to the last eight.

She will now face compatriot Lojayn Gohary on Monday afternoon, after the Egyptian downed No.8 seed Salma El Aify in four games. The pair were level after two games, with El Aify winning the second 13-11. The third also went to a tie-break, but it was Gohary who came through that, winning it 14-12. She then went on to win the fourth 11-7 to book her quarter final spot.

Nour Ramy and Haya Ali add to the Egyptian contingent through to the last eight in Delhi. Meanwhile, No.5 seed Tanvi Khanna carries home hopes through on Indian soil. She defeated Hong Kong’s Toby Tse in straight games to make the last eight.

The Hong Kong duo of Ching Hei Fung and Cheng Nga Ching, the tournament’s top two seeds, are also safely through to the quarter finals. Malaysia’s Ainaa Amani, who claimed her maiden Tour title last month, rounds out the quarter final draw in Delhi.

The quarter finals of the Vikram Goyal SRFI Open will take place in Delhi on Monday, April 3.
