Vikram Goyal Open RD1: All Opening Day Matches Won In Three

It was a straight-forward opening day at the Vikram Goyal SRFI Open in Delhi, India, as all eight matches were won in straight games.

The Challenger 10 level women’s competition got underway at the Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium in the Indian city, and there were a couple of surprises in those eight matches.

Egypt’s Malak Fathy and India’s Sanika Choudhari both knocked out members of the 9/16 seeding bracket on Saturday afternoon. Choudhari delighted the home crowd by defeating Serbian No.1 Jelena Dutina in just 17 minutes. Meanwhile, Fathy downed Singapore’s Leia Lee Zi Fang to book her second round place.

Along with Fathy, three other Egyptians made their way into the last 16. There were also wins for Menna Walid, Ingy Hammouda and Lojayn Gohary. The Hong Kong duo of Toby Tse and Wai Sze Wing both also took victories, along with Ukranian Anastasiia Kositukova.
