Vikram Goyal Open: Amani Wins Back-To-Back Events

5 April 2023

Two weeks after winning her maiden Tour title, Malaysia’s Ainaa Amani doubled up with a victory at the Vikram Goyal SRFI Open in India.

The 21-year-old secured her first win on Tour at the Hong Kong Squash Challenge Cup last month, and came into this Challenger 10 level event in Delhi as the tournament’s No.3 seed.

After receiving a bye through the opening day’s action, she then defeated two Indians to make the last four. Amani got the better of Sanika Choudhari in the second round, before then beating No.5 seed Tanvi Khanna in four games to make it through to the semi-finals.

In the last four, the young Malaysian came up against top seed Cheng Nga Ching. She has beaten the Hongkonger in the final on her opponent’s home soil to win her maiden Tour title just two weeks earlier. Once again, it was the World No.90 that cruised to victory, winning in straight games.

The final also lasted less than half an hour, as Amani won in three once more. It was a tour challenge for the 21-year-old, but she won 11-8, 11-9, 11-9 to defeat Egypt’s Haya Ali, the No.7 seed. This was her biggest win to date on the Tour, and Amani now has back-to-back victories.
