Top Seeds Ivan Perez & Menna Hamed Take The PSA Cognac Titles

28 November 2022

Spain’s Ivan Perez and Egypt’s Menna Hamed were victorious at the PSA Cognac this week after both winning their respective finals 3-0 in Squash La Belle Allée to claim their fourth and seventh PSA titles.

Perez was the top seed for the event and defeated surprise finalist Abdallah Elmasry in straight games to life the title. The spaniard was tested throughout but managed to hold off the Egyptian in all three games to take the win in just short of an hour of play.

The win for Perez is even more impressive given the efforts that he went through in the previous round to get there. He overcame Germany’s Valentin Rapp in a huge 91 minute clash, winning 13-11 in the fifth game after an error from Rapp secured the victory for the No.1 seed.

Perez won both of his second and third round matches 3-1 to advance to the semi-finals, beating Belgium’s Lowie Delbeke and Egypt’s Mohamed Nasser.

Menna Hamed in action

In the women’s final, Egypt’s Menna Hamed got the better of Switzerland’s Ambre Allinckx to lift the Challenger 5 title. Hamed wasted no time in the final as she only needed 24 minutes to overcome the unseeded Allinckx.

Like Perez, Hamed also had to weather a storm in the semi-finals as she overcame Japan’s Akari Midorikawa 11-9 in the fifth game to advance after 57 minutes of play. That was after she managed to beat Belgium’s Ella Galova in the quarter finals, 3-1 and France’s Ana Munos in the second round.
