The Hague Open: All Seeds Progress On Day One In The Netherlands

Round one of The Hague Open concluded yesterday at Houtrust Squash Club with 16 players all looking to claim places in the second round of the Challenger 5 event. It was a day for the seeds however as all of the 9/16 seeds progressed to round two in convincing fashion.

Three Englishmen scored victories on day one as Will Salter, Lewis Doughty and Aaron Allpress advanced to round two. Allpress came through the toughest test as he overcame Rene Mijs in four games. Doughty and Salter both won in straight games with the latter restricting his wildcard opponent to just one point across all three games.

There were no home victories on day one as all four wildcards fell at the first hurdle. Sam Gerrits came the closest however as he pushed Kuwait’s Ammar AlTamimi in a tightly contested four game clash. With the score level at 1-1, Altamimi took the third game 11-9 before completing the win in the fourth game 11-7.

The top eight seeds will enter the fray in round two, and will face the eight winners from day one. An exciting match up that is set to take place is that between France’s Laszlo Godde and Egypt’s Omar Elkattan.
