Sutton Coldfield SF: Four Nations Represented In Finals

The finals of the Sutton Coldfield International are set, and we will see four players from four different nationalities in action on Saturday.

Emyr Evans came through the all-Welsh clash on semi-finals day in Sutton Coldfield, as he got the better of compatriot Elliott Morris Devred to book his spot in the Challenger 5 level men’s final. The No.3 seed won in straight games against his fellow Welshman to secure his passage through to the final.

He will now face England’s Simon Herbert in the last match of the tournament. The Englishman overcame the challenge of the unseeded Alasdair Prott in straight games, winning 11-8, 11-6, 11-5 to see the No.2 seed advance to Saturday’s final.

In the women’s semi-finals, there was an all-Egyptian battle, and it was 15-year-old Amina Orfi that came through it. She took on compatriot Hana Ismail, with the pair both having caused several upsets already in the event. Orfi won in four games to secure her place in a second consecutive final, after winning her maiden Tour title in Jodhpur at the end of last month.

The final in Sutton Coldfield will see Orfi take on New Zealand’s Kaitlyn Watts, after the Kiwi downed top seed Anna Kimberley in straight games. The first game of their contest was crucial, with Watts taking it on a tie-break, and from there, she went on to win in three, advancing to her first final in 18 months.

Saturday, December 3 will see the finals of the Sutton Coldfield International, with Kaitlyn Watts taking on Amina Orfi, before Emyr Evans and Simon Herbert do battle. You can keep up to date with live scores from the finals here.
