Sport Central Open Preview: Eltorgman Excited For Home Event

2 November 2022

The Sport Central Open by Underhill Geomatics will be one of the four events taking place on the Tour this week.

The Challenger 5 level men’s event will take place from Thursday, November 3 to Sunday, November 6 at the Sport Central in Richmond, Canada, with 16 players aiming for glory.

Mexico’s Alfredo Avila will be the top seed for the competition, with compatriot Alejandro Reyes as his nearest competitor. Connor Turk will be the leading Canadian in action, joined in the top eight seeds by Salah Eltorgman and Liam Marrison.

We spoke to Eltorgman prior to the tournament starting, and he is excited to be playing on home soil this week, as his level continues to improve.

“I believe my level of squash is improving with each tournament and getting great competition from the PSA tournaments helps a lot,” he explained.

“Being able to play in these great events in front of my friends and family gives me a huge boost of confidence.”

The Canadian will be among the eight seeded players for this week’s Challenger 5 level competition, but despite that, he is trying not to add any pressure on to his shoulders for the event.

“I try to not put any extra pressure on myself with certain expectations and try to play the best squash possible,” the Canadian admitted.

“Breaking into the top 150 is a goal of mine to reach before the New Year, along with being more consistent and improving my mental toughness, which will definitely help reach that goal and beyond.”

The event takes place from Thursday, November 3 to Sunday, November 6 at Sport Central in Richmond, Canada. Follow the PSA Challenger Tour on Twitter and Facebook for daily updates from the event.
