Sport Central Open: Avila Claims Second Win Of Season

Mexico’s Alfredo Avila dropped just a single game on route to taking his second title of the season, as he won the Sport Central Open by Underhill Geomatics.

The Mexican came into the tournament as the top seed, and started his week with a commanding victory against Egypt’s Mahmoud Abouelleil, dropping just a single point in an 11-0, 11-0, 11-1 victory.

Avila then defeated Canadian Liam Marrison in the quarter finals, before dropping his only game of the tournament in the last four. Jeremias Azana took the opening game of their semi-final contest, but the Mexican fought back to win in four.

The final pitted Avila against Englishman Perry Malik, and he was back to his best, coming through the match in straight games. He won 11-7, 11-7, 11-5 to secure his second victory of the 2022-2023 season.
