Schräglage Squash Open: Omlor Wins Third Tour Title

24 September 2023

Yannik Omlor ended a two-year title drought as he beat fellow German Valentin Rapp in the Schräglage Squash Open final.

Omlor, the No.1 seed, had only dropped one game en route to the final, but knew he was in a battle early in this one, with the first two games taking more than half an hour.

Rapp eventually took the second after Omlor had won game one, but the third game was where the turning point came.

Omlor saved two game balls at 8-10 down before squandering one himself, eventually taking the game 13-11 to nudge himself in front.

The fourth game was nip-and-tuck early on, but Omlor pulled clear when it mattered, sealing a 3-1 victory to secure the title.

In the women’s draw, there was more final heartbreak for England’s Keira Marshall.

The No.3 seed had lost each of her previous three PSA Tour finals, and was hoping to go one better this time, against Singapore’s Au Yeong Wai Yhann.

She took the opening game 11-7, but that was as good as it got, with Singapore’s No.1 taking control of the match in the second and never letting go, winning her first Tour title.
