QPCC Premiere: Damming Claims Maiden Tour Title

6 November 2022

Dutchman Rowan Damming secured his maiden Tour title after beating top seed Andres Herrera in the final of the QPCC Premiere PSA Squash Tournament.

Damming, who took the World Junior Championship crown earlier this year, came into the Challenger 5 level competition in Trinidad and Tobago as the No.3 seed, and received a bye through the opening day’s action in Port of Spain.

He then had to go the distance in his opening clash of the tournament, beating Germany’s Jan Wipperfurth in straight games to move through to the quarter finals. The Dutchman then also went to five in the last eight as well. Damming defeated New Zealand’s No.6 seed Anthony Lepper in a 71-minute clash, taking the fifth game 11-4.

The semi-finals saw the World No.174 take on Frenchman Maceo Levy, and he fell two games behind in their clash on Friday. However, the Dutchman fought back strongly to send the match into a deciding game, one that went all the way to a tie-break. Eventually, Damming claimed a 16-14 win in the fifth to advance to the final in Port of Spain.

The final saw Damming come up against top seed Andres Herrera, and the Colombian won the first game 11-3. Damming fought back to win the second game 11-9, before then taking the third on a tie-break 14-12. He kept that momentum running to claim the fourth game 11-8, winning in four to secure his maiden Tour title.
