Patagonia Open RD2: Azana Through Among Top Eight Seeds

Home favourite Jeremias Azana is among the top eight seeds to make it through to the quarters of the Villa la Angostura Patagonia Open.

The Argentine came into the first event of this year’s Tour de las Americas as the No.5 seed, and he had to come from behind in his second round contest against the Czech Republic’s Ondrej Vorlicek. The Czech man went 2-1 up, but Azana fought back to win the fourth 11-8, before then also taking the deciding game to advance to the quarters.

He will now take on England’s Tom Walsh in the last eight on Friday, after the Englishman downed Brazil’s Pedro Mometto in four games. Walsh is one of four Europeans through to the quarter finals. He will be joined by Switzerland’s Yannick Wilhelmi, Germany’s Yannik Omlor and France’s Toufik Mekhalfi, with the latter pair playing each other on Friday.

In the top half of the draw, top seed Spencer Lovejoy is safely through. He came from behind to defeat France’s Maceo Levy. Levy won the opening game 11-6, but Lovejoy Responded brilliantly to drop just seven points over the next two games. The fourth went to a tie-break, but it was the American that took it 12-10 to advance.

Brazil’s Diego Gobbi and Colombia’s Edgar Ramirez Bautista are the final two men through to the quarter finals. They got the better of Jorge Gomez and Felipe Tovar, respectively, to reach the last eight in Villa la Angostura.
