Latina Paraguay Open: Tournament Preview

After last week’s men’s event, the focus in Asuncion turns to the women’s draw at this year’s Paraguay Open.

The event is part of the Latina Tour de las Americas, and the draw will be very similar to the one at the PAC Open de Squash in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil last week.

Dutchwoman Tessa ter Sluis will be the tournament’s top seed once again this week for the women’s Challenger 5 level competition in Asuncion. Colombia’s Laura Tovar will be the only South American in the top eight seeds.

Egypt’s Sohaila Ismail and Ingy Hammouda will join Japan’s Erisa Sano Herring, Scotland’s Ellie Jones, Sanne Veldkamp of the Netherlands and Ukrainian Anastasiia Kostiuokva, with the latter aiming to follow in her compatriots footsteps, after Alina Bushma claimed her maiden Tour title last week in Rio de Janeiro.

Jones will be joined by younger sibling Carys, who will be part of the 9/16 seeding bracket. Colombia’s Maria Tovar and Lucia Bautista will also be in that group, with the latter having a win and a runners-up finish to her name over the last two weeks.

The event takes place from Tuesday, May 23 to Saturday, May 27 at the Club Internacional de Tenis in Asuncion. Follow the PSA Challenger Tour on Twitter and Facebook for daily updates from the event.
