Paraguay Open: Romiglio Makes It Back-To-Back Wins

21 May 2023

Argentina’s Leandro Romiglio secured his second title in as many weeks, beating compatriot Jeremias Azana to lift the Paraguay Open trophy.

Romiglio came into this week’s event after winning the Regatas Resistencia Open on home soil last Saturday. He was the top seed for this week’s Paraguay Open, the third event on the Tour de las Americas.

After receiving a first round bye, the Argentine started his campaign with a straight games win over Colombia’s Edgar Ramirez Bautista. That was followed by a four-game battle with Frenchman Edwin Clain, before e then downed Switzerland’s Yannick Wilhelmi.

The pair had met in the final in Resistencia last week, with Romiglio winning in straight games on that occasion. This week, they met in the last four, and it was a closer contest, with the Argentine winning in four games to advance to the final.

He took on compatriot and No.8 seed Jeremias Azana in the final on Saturday evening in Asuncion. The all-Argentine battle was only going one way from the off, with Romiglio in control throughout the contest. He won 11-4, 11-7, 11-4 to claim his second time in as many weeks, and his third success of the season.
