Paraguay Open RD2: Levy Downs No.2 Seed To Advance

France’s Maceo Levy caused the only upset on the second day in Paraguay, as he downed No.2 seed Christopher Gordon to reach the quarter finals.

The Frenchman had defeated Argentine Segundo Portabales in the opening round of the Challenger 10 level tournament, and took on the experienced Gordon in the second round on Wednesday evening in Asuncion.

The American won the opening game of their contest, but a second game tie-break was crucial in Levy turning the match around. He eventually won it 15-13, before then going on to win both the third and fourth games, to secure the victory.

Elsewhere, Switzerland’s Yannick Wilhelmi went through three tie-breaks on his way to a second round victory. He took on Guatemala’s Alejandro Enriquez on Wednesday, winning the opening game 11-5. It was anything but easy from there though.

He took the second as well, but it was a game that saw 32 points played. Wilhelmi eventually won it 17-15, but then saw the Guatemalan win the third 13-11. The fourth would also go to a tie-break, with Wilhelmi taking it 14-12 to move through to the quarter finals.

Top seed Leandro Romiglio is safely through to the last eight in Paraguay. The Argentine won on home soil at the Regatas Resistencia Open last week, and started his campaign in Asuncion on Wednesday with a straight games win over Colombia’s Edgar Ramirez Bautista.

Romiglio will be joined in the last eight by compatriot and No.8 seed Jeremias Azana, England’s Tom Walsh, Germany’s Yannik Omlor, Colombia’s Andres Herrera and Frenchman Edwin Clain.
